Mohan debuts new colors at Redline Time Attack in Buttonwillow

April 2, 2010 (Signal Hill, Calif.) – The familiar Mazda RX-7 Turbo II of Kyle Mohan rolled on track in some new colors at last weekend’s Redline Time Attack at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow,Calif. Now sporting the colors of new title sponsor, Nexen Tire, Mohan’s bright purple Mazda proved ready to tackle Buttonwillow’s difficult 3-mile road course.
Competing in the Drift class, Mohan faced some stiff competition as he adapted his car from drifting to Time Attack competition. It was also the first time he would compete on the Nexen N3000 tires, which were more than up to the challenge of Buttonwillow.
“Redline was a challenge for not only the car, but me as a driver,” said Mohan. “Over two days of practice and competing, we got faster each time we got on the track. The car great with no problems and the tires were great the whole time.”
After a challenging two days of competition, Mohan finished fourth in the Drift class, not far off of the last step on the podium. With no time to test before the event, as KMR has also been concurrently busy prepping the Nexen / Mazdatrix Mazda RX-8 for the Formula Drift season opener, Mohan left the event happy with the results but with a list of upgrades and changes to make to the Mazdatrix / Nexen Mazda RX-7 before the next Redline event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on April 24-25.
“Realistically, we got the most we were going to get out of the car this past weekend,” said Mohan. “It is very fast and the potential is there to get on the podium and win some of these Time Attacks. Now we just have to improve what we have but there is no one else that can make Mazda’s go faster than the team at Mazdatrix.”
Mohan will be back behind the wheel of the Nexen / Mazdatrix Mazda RX-8 at the Formula Drift season opener, April 9-10, on the Streets of Long Beach, where he will bring Nexen Tire into Formula Drift for the first time.
