- Connect with Kyle Mohan:
Kyle Mohan has been at ground zero of America’s discovery of drifting since it first landed on these shores. In the first few seconds that he observed a car being danced sideways, tires smoking and engine screaming, Kyle decided to combine his love of rotary-powered Mazdas with this new phenomenon. Ten years later, Mohan is a veteran of six seasons of Formula Drift competition, the owner of Kyle Mohan Racing and the driver of the no. 99 Nexen / Mazdatrix Mazda RX-8.
When and why did you start drifting? When I turned 20 I built a track car. I saw a few other drivers sliding on a skid pad and went to check it out. That was some of the most fun I ever had and that’s what started me with drifting.
What do you like about drifting? Drifting captures some of the best elements from different automotive sports and puts them directly in front of the audience. I love the power of the cars and the power of the crowds.
Who is your inspiration/rolemodel (in and out of the drift scene)? My dad, Joe Mohan. One of the hardest working people I know. Always positive and believes whatever the situation is try to find the positive points in it. Enjoy life.
Where is your favorite place to drift? The streets of Long Beach circuit. It’s an amazing feeling to drift in front of my home town friends and family. Formula Drift Long Beach and the Team Drifting Challenge at the Long Beach Grand Prix are always my favorite events.
Why do you like using NEXEN Tires on your Drift Car? Drifting is all about car control. The Nexen performance tires we run provide the control, grip, and stability it takes to be competitive.
What is your memorable drifting moment? Being invited to the Red Bull Drift World Championships. We qualified 10th overall and had some great runs. One of the biggest events ever in the drifting world. It was amazing to be involved.
What do you like to do for fun when you're not drifting? I spend most of my time at Mazdatrix or at Kyle Mohan Racing working on new ideas for my drift cars. I truly love building and working on drift and race cars.
What are your favorite drifting events? Formula Drift on the Streets of Long Beach, and the Long Beach Grand Prix.
